tay_ploops (pronounced tape loops) is a sea grit sighed project by multi-disciplinary artist, puppeteer, poet, painter, clown, Jessica Gabriel. They create lo-fi sketches from handheld casse-tête tape recordings, improvised whirr'd play in the moment, gathering gumption for growth & decay

“Ethereal tape pops and playful peculiarities. Fidgety yet sensual. A stream of consciousness that tickles behind your eyelids.” -Stembreo

Jessica has been exploring making mixed media sound art under the name tay_ploops since 2013 and over the years has performed/channelled with cassettes in various settings and contexts. They have performed live in person at Moot Studio, Hidden City Records, ArtsWells, Fake Jazz, and via livestream for Jefferson Park EXP Chicago. tay_ploops released a net album "spool oops" for pan y rosas discos in 2018 and participated in the London UK 20x20 Project by creating "dish of orcas" in 2020.

We're grateful to collaborate and produce on the shared, stolen, unceded, ancestral and traditional territories of Penelakut, Lamalcha, Hwitslum and other Hul’qumi’num speaking peoples, as well as the ceded territories of Tsawwassen First Nation, on what is now known as Galiano Island, British Columbia. We recognize the complex impacts that hosting settlers and non-settlers has on the Indigenous land and peoples of this area, and we aim to be responsible and accountable for these impacts and our footprint—whether cultural, environmental or social.

We acknowledge the generous support of our partners and funders:
