Geräuschbiest is an experimental instrumental ensemble driven by Jesse and Thomas Krause. Between the brothers they have extensive experience in choral music and rock-band settings. In Geräuschbiest, they explore the potential of instrumental sound, with purpose built instruments unique to each piece they create. The juxtaposition of their tight vocal harmonies and the animalistic sounds of their instruments creates a blend of the brutal and the serene. Through their goals to make musical experiences of raw natural materials, they explore what it means to be tool-making creatures in a world of sound.

Jesse Krause is an artist born and raised in the lower-mainland of British Columbia, now living in Winnipeg Manitoba. There his practice includes numerous forms of arts education from private instrumental instruction and choral direction, to graphic score writing and experimental instrument building workshops. His recent graduate studies focused on animal communication as a framework for constructing human music.

Thomas Krause is a versatile Winnipeg-based musician known for his innovative and collaborative projects. He co-founded the experimental ensemble Geräuschbiest with his brother, Jesse Krause; the group is recognized for its avant-garde performances, including original oratorios that explore lesser-known biblical narratives. Thomas’s commitment to experimental music is further exemplified through his collaboration with interdisciplinary artist Jami Reimer on "Listening Experiment No. 1." This project transformed environmental sounds from a cycling journey from Winnipeg to Waterloo into a cohesive musical soundscape, reflecting his dedication to exploring unconventional narratives and soundscapes. It premiered at the Sound in the Land conference in Waterloo, Ontario. Krause also wrote, recorded, and toured with Winnipeg experimental folk ensemble Alanadale.

J.T. Gladysz has spent most of his life immersed in music, from singer/songwriter roots to drumming in rock bands. Since 2020, he has explored experimental and electronic composition, crafting minimalist soundscapes using field recordings, tape loops, and synths. His music blurs natural ambiances with industrial rumbles, weaving hypnotic melodies into a meditative experience. His debut solo album, Lush Vegetation, arrives via Montreal’s Isohyet label. Recorded between his Vancouver home studio and a secluded cabin on Gossip Island, the album’s ten tracks evoke stillness and solitude, infused with Pacific Northwest field recordings. A balance of organic and electronic textures creates a deeply personal, immersive listening experience—like a diary of sonic meditations. Close your eyes, and you can almost sense the vast ocean and towering forests surrounding him.

We're grateful to collaborate and produce on the shared, stolen, unceded, ancestral and traditional territories of Penelakut, Lamalcha, Hwitslum and other Hul’qumi’num speaking peoples, as well as the ceded territories of Tsawwassen First Nation, on what is now known as Galiano Island, British Columbia. We recognize the complex impacts that hosting settlers and non-settlers has on the Indigenous land and peoples of this area, and we aim to be responsible and accountable for these impacts and our footprint—whether cultural, environmental or social.

We acknowledge the generous support of our partners and funders:
