Alexandre Klinke is a Brazilian musician from São Paulo, based in Vancouver since 2008. Drawing from the musical traditions of his home country and contemporary electronic experimentation, he creates works that connect ancestral roots with new sonic possibilities. His new album, Subtropical Tape Sessions (Hotham Sound, June 2026), imagines a future folklore through beat-driven electronic compositions, tape-saturated textures, and field recordings captured primarily in Brazil. Inspired by ethnomusicology and speculative storytelling, the record unfolds as a fictional collage of found music, placing listeners within a vivid (sub)tropical dreamscape.
After a decade of performing and releasing music under the moniker Playback Head—an ambient project exploring abstract sonic worlds—Subtropical Tape Sessions marks Klinke’s return to rhythm-driven work, his first since Lugares (2016), which was featured on Bandcamp Weekly upon its release.
