danielle Mackenzie Long uses performance, new media and film to liberate gender non-conforming dance artists to create work that surpasses gendered bodies through visual experimentation and expanded audience access. Their work highlights alternative forms of embodiment beyond traditional stages, spatially resisting preconceived understandings of how bodies and movement can be perceived. They hold gratitude to the stewards of the land that they currently reside on; the stolen and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Səl̓ílwətaʔ / Selilwitulh, and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm nations.
Their XR, new media and film works have been presented by Vector Festival, GRRL HAUS CINEMA, XINEMA, FAVA, FORM and Cinevolution among others, and live performance works presented through New Works, Boombox and TO Love-In (Toronto). As a dance artist and movement collaborator they have had the pleasure to perform in works for Action at a Distance / Vanessa Goodman, Shion Skye Carter, and self checkout / Lamont among others. danielle has been an artist in residence with Toronto Dance Theatre, New Works XR, Studio 303 (Montreal), Playwrights Theatre Centre and InterAccess (Toronto).
We’re grateful to collaborate and produce on the shared, stolen, unceded, ancestral and traditional territories of Penelakut, Lamalcha, Hwlitsum and other Hul’qumi’num speaking peoples, as well as the ceded territories of Tsawwassen First Nation, on what is now known as Galiano Island, British Columbia.
